Adela’s Curse: New Release

Today, Claire Banschbach is back on my blog to talk about her new release. We have a synopsis, a giveaway, and and excerpt. Enjoy!

Adelas Curse KINDLEA curse. A murderous scheme. A choice.

A witch and her master capture a young faery and command her to kill their enemy. Adela has no choice but to obey. If she does not, they will force the location of her people’s mountain home from her and kill her. To make matters even worse, the person she is to kill is only a man struggling to save his dying land and mend a broken heart.

Count Stefan is a man simply trying to forget the woman he loves and save a land crippled by drought. When a mysterious woman arrives at his castle claiming to be a seamstress, he knows she is more than she seems.

Adela enlists the help of Damian, another faery, to try and delay the inevitable. He insists she has a choice. But with the witch controlling her every move, does she?

“I didn’t know you had a pet squirrel,” Adela turned the conversation to Damian.

“Yes, his name is Annoying,” Damian joked. “He was lost in a blizzard one winter, so I took care of him, and he never left. I’m stuck with him now.” He handed the squirrel another nut as it tapped his shoulder. Adela smiled, and they began to talk more easily about the life in the forest.

All too soon they reached the edge of the forest. A word from Damian sent the squirrel scampering back into the trees. Both faeries hid their wings, slightly altering their appearance so that the mortals would not immediately suspect them of being faeries.

Adela took one last longing look at the forest, then Damian led her on.

Count Stefan’s lands began nearly seven miles from the forest’s edge. After two hours’ walk, they reached the border.

“This is it,” Adela said. Damian’s boot scuffed the road.

“I don’t want to leave you alone.”

“You have to. Marek will be trying to find me. I can’t let him know that you’re here with me.”

“Surely we can break the rule this once…” Damian said.

“No. Faeries don’t kill humans. And I know that’s what Marek is making me do, but I don’t want more death on my hands,” Adela firmly said.

“What if I tell the king what’s happening?”

“And what would the king do? A confrontation would not end well for either side. I’m just afraid that if more faeries get involved, the witch would come for me. I can’t escape this bond. Marek said he’d force the way to the mountain from me and… and everyone would die.”

Damian’s jaw clenched in frustration. “I just wish there was something…anything…that I could do.”

“Like you said, we’ll find a way.” She squeezed his hand, surprised at the familiarity already between them. He looked down at her.

“Be careful,” he said.

“Good bye,” she said, then turned quickly and walked away. She couldn’t drag it out any longer or her heart would break at the thought of everyone she was leaving behind.
