I need your questions

I need some questions and fast (thus the second post in one day). I have a character interview I want to do for my main character of my soon-to-be-released book, “All the Way My Savior Leads.” Is there anything you would like to ask Henry Salisbury? If you don’t know the story at all, but have a question that could still apply to any character of any Historical Fiction book, feel free to chime in.

You can either comment below, email me, or use the contact form to the left.

Here’s the description of the book if that helps at all:

Caroline and I walked out the back door and went into the barn.
“What are we going to do?” Caroline asked.
“Head out on our own. Saddle Whitey, please.”
Caroline’s mouth gaped open. “They’ll find us.”
“I know.”
Caroline sighed. “What can we do then?”
I shook my head. “We can stick together. Always.”

Tragedy stole everything from him … except her …

Three years ago, an illness orphaned Henry and Caroline Salisbury. The harsh years at the orphanage have forged a strong bond between the pair.

But Henry’s about to age out.

He must choose whether to leave his only family behind in relative safety, or take her with him as he pursues dreams of owning a farm. Henry trusts that God has a plan for him, but little does he know that others have plans for him and his younger sister as well. He will need all his faith to find the right path.

Thank you in advance!

Character Interview: Caleb Stuart

Today we start with three characters who are either in or at least mentioned in Be Thou My Vision but are also main characters in Amazing Grace.  Today’s character, Caleb Stuart, is Anna’s sister and will be one of the main characters in Amazing Grace along with his father, Iain, and Maggie and Rachel MacDougall (who you will meet next week).  And now, onto the interview.  As always, if you have more questions, feel free to ask in the comments below.  And be sure to read to the end as there is an excerpt from Be Thou My Vision as a small introduction to Caleb.

Caleb Stuart
Main Character in Amazing Grace
Hair: Brown hair with hints of red, short, straight
Eyes: brown
Height: 6’ 3”
Complexion: tanned, weather beaten, smattering of freckles
Features: average
Age: 32

Caleb has been a farmer all his life. He was 11 when his mother died. He has always been introspective and quiet. It is rare for him to voice an opinion, good or bad, about anything. Though he has never voiced it, he has always dreamed of saving a “damsel in distress”. Even thought he has dreamed of that, he has never really had a desire to marry. He is indifferent to God and isn’t very open to pursuing a relationship with Him in the near future.

Why does he want to rescue a “damsel in distress”?

Good question.

Caleb has always been caring and compassionate. He wants to help in any way he can. As a boy, his mother read him fairy tales and when he played by himself, he pretended to be a prince saving the damsel in distress and riding off into the sunset. As he grew older, his dream has never gone away. It is a way to keep his mother’s memory alive. Continue reading

Before I get on with the interview, I just want to remind you that tomorrow, March 15th, the Kindle version of A Mighty Fortress will be $0.99.  If you haven’t had a chance to read it and don’t want to spend a lot of money, pick it up tomorrow.  And now for the interview with Pastor Miles Jenkins.  If you have any further questions about or for Pastor Jenkins, please feel free to ask them.  🙂

Pastor Miles Jenkins
Secondary Main Character in Be Thou My Vision a Christian Western

As the Pastor of a small community, Pastor Jenkins has to take care of his flock as well as his two sons. He received support from the church when his wife died three years earlier, but the church quickly lost steam when it came to helping him and he has been completely on his own for about 2 years. Being both mother and father to 2 energetic boys has started to wear him down. Especially with all his extra responsibilities with the church. They are both suffering. He has prayed for over a year that God would provide a solution.

Character Interview: Anna Stuart

In January, the writer’s forum I am on hosted a 12 days, 12 characters character interview.  I gave a short description of seven of my characters from the next two books in the Hymns of the West series and then people asked me questions about each of the characters.  The next seven Friday posts will be the character interviews I did with these characters.  I hope you enjoy this series and the opportunity to get to know some of the characters of my upcoming books.

Anna Stuart
Main Character in Be Thou My Vision a Christian Western

Hair: Unruly, curly, and red
Eyes: Emerald Green
Height: 5’ 9”
Complexion: fair, burns easily, rough, freckled,
Features: plain
Favorite color: brown
Age: 29/30

Anna is a spinster who lives with her older brother and father. She takes has always dreamed of getting married and having at least 5 boys. She took care of her little brother after her mother died giving birth to him when she was 9 and she loves taking care of boys. Her brother ran away when he was 14 and she was 23. She was devastated when he left and has been isolated from society for over 7 years. She has been indifferent to God ever since her brother ran away, but has started opening up more.

Why has she kept herself isolated from society?

She always felt that society would reject her because her brother ran away. And without her younger brother to take care of, she felt like she had no purpose in life anymore.

Was she ever in love?

No, she has not ever been in love before.

What is her temperament? Does she get angry easily, or does she have a quieter personality?

She is moody and expressive. She gets angered fairly easily, but she can control it most of the time. She definitely does not have a quiet personality.

Out of interest, since you said she was a spinster, is she past the age of ever getting married/having children then? 29/30 seems pretty young. (At least that’s what I always thought the definition of Spinster was)

Back then, women were spinsters if they weren’t married in their early twenties. I don’t know the exact age, but that’s the way it was.

Does she still have any desire to be married?

Yes, she does.

Who is her closest friend?

Her brother, Caleb.

Does she feel constrained by her isolation, since she does not have a naturally quiet personality?

Perhaps somewhat, but she was never close to any of the females in town.

Did she have a good relationship with her younger brother before he ran away?

Yes, she did. She raised him after her mother died giving birth to him and always felt like she was his mother. When he ran away, it nearly broke her heart. Jed had been her life, the main reason she had lived the previous 14 years.

Does she feel guilty, as if she might have kept him there if she had been different?

Yes, she does. She second guesses herself nearly everyday. Was there something she could have done? Could she have stopped her father from beating Jed? Those are questions that haunt her.

Does she have much work to do day to day?

She has the garden to tend to, the cooking, cleaning, and laundry. There is plenty for her to do and when she runs out of things around the house, she can go help her father and brother in the fields.

Do her father and brother depend on her for things?

They depend on her to have the house clean and food on the table. If they get hurt or sick, she is the one who doctors them back to health.  Other than that, they do most everything on their own.
