TSR Release Banner FB and Blog

My baby is now out and available to the world. Not literally, but it seems like it. The Solid Rock is by far my favorite novel of the series. There are many reasons for this. 1.) I’ve always loved reading mysteries, but was always intimidated by writing one. Now I’ve written two (one not published yet) and I think I’ve even done them both successfully! 2.) The spiritual themes in The Solid Rock are so much deeper than in my previous books. For more on those themes, check out the guest post I’m doing on Thursday on the Trust and Obey blog. 3.) It was the easiest rough draft to write. I wrote the entire rough draft (about 60,000 words) in 32 days by hand. God has blessed this book in so many ways. 4.) My cover designer came up with a great idea after my original idea didn’t work.

Make sure you read through all the way to the end of the post so you can find out about my free book, the giveaway, a fun release party, and links to the other blogs on the tour. Be sure to check out some of those blogs for different excerpts and fun interviews.

About the Book

3D The Solid RockJoshua woke with a quiet groan. As his senses woke up one at a time, he cracked his eyelids open. Sure enough, there was a silhouetted form standing at the foot of the bed. From the smell, the person was either from the brothel down the street or had recently left one.

He forced himself to breathe evenly and reached for the knife in his thigh holster. With as tough and evil a voice as he could imitate, he spoke, “State your intentions.”

Pinkerton detective, Joshua Brookings, is sent on a job that seems simple on the surface. His fellow detective has been kidnapped and his boss, William Pinkerton senses foul play. Joshua is sent to investigate Edward’s case in hopes of finding the kidnapped detective and helping solve the case that has taken over ten years to investigate.

Arriving in Cheyenne, Joshua finds much more than a simple kidnapping. Yet again, he must go undercover, something he made his boss promise never to make him do again. The only Christian in the outlaw group, Joshua falters and almost loses faith in God’s providence. Will he stand on the solid Rock or drown in the sinking sand? Continue reading

‘Twas a dark and stormy night in a galaxy not that far away…

In a land far, far away, on a dark and stormy night, I sit typing away on my keyboard. Thoughts of family, friends, and other trivial things are far from me. I’m immersed into the lives of people living in the late 1880s in Athens, Tennessee. The final read through before sending the manuscript to the proofreaders was almost finished. Will I make it on time?

Two days earlier

I practically bounce around throughout the day. After finishing half of the final read through, I finally decide on a publication date. With beating heart and shaky fingers, I push the magic button that will make my book available for preorder about twelve hours later. Continue reading

Wasn’t that blog tour fun? I know I had fun. But I’m sure y’all don’t necessarily care. You mainly want to know who our two lucky winners are. Well, our lucky winners today are…

Be Thou My Vision just front1 (2)

Aundy Cover

Congratulations to you both! I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading the books! Either Shanna or I will be emailing you soon. Random, fun fact: Anna and Aundy both have some similarities. They are both unconventional women and they are both taller than most women.

And since there were only three entries, I didn’t want to leave Miss Theodora out. Theodora will be receiving two lovely desktop backgrounds created by Perry Elisabeth.

Be Thou My Vision

Don’t forget that you can preorder “Be Thou My Vision” all the way up to the publishing date. On October 26th, the price goes up to what will be the regular price: $2.99.

BTMV Preorder Promo2And if you haven’t read the first book, “A Mighty Fortress”, it isn’t necessary to read first, but it does give a little bit of back story. Also, be on the look out for updates on “Amazing Grace”. To get the full story, from “Be Thou My Vision”, you will want to read “Amazing Grace”. Lord willing, that book will be coming out early 2015.

Writing Sermons, a guest post

BTMV Preorder Promo2

Today’s stop on the blog tour is at Ophelia’s blog. She’s a friend of mine from Holy Worlds and offered to post a guest post from me. So I wrote up a blog post about writing sermons since I did that two or three times in Be Thou My Vision. Check it out! And the giveaway is still open until Monday (September 22, 2014) at midnight, so if you want a chance to win, you better enter now. So far there are only 3 entries.

Another sneak peek

Today’s blog tour stop is at Valerie Howard’s blog and is another sneak peek. Go over to the Pen Help blog to read about Anna meeting up with an old school mate.

And thank you to all who have entered the giveaway. Make sure you tell people about the giveaway. The more the merrier! 😀

Stop #3: Excerpt with Onisha Ellis

On stop #3 today, we go over to Onisha Ellis’ blog and share an excerpt. This scene was really fun to write, mainly because the boy is mute and Anna doesn’t know that at first. Go over to Onisha’s blog to find out how she reacts.

Character Interview: Anna Stuart

wallpaper2 tweaked

In January, the writer’s forum I am on hosted a 12 days, 12 characters character interview.  I gave a short description of seven of my characters from the next two books in the Hymns of the West series and then people asked me questions about each of the characters.  The next seven Friday posts will be the character interviews I did with these characters.  I hope you enjoy this series and the opportunity to get to know some of the characters of my upcoming books.

Anna Stuart
Main Character in Be Thou My Vision a Christian Western

Hair: Unruly, curly, and red
Eyes: Emerald Green
Height: 5’ 9”
Complexion: fair, burns easily, rough, freckled,
Features: plain
Favorite color: brown
Age: 29/30

Anna is a spinster who lives with her older brother and father. She takes has always dreamed of getting married and having at least 5 boys. She took care of her little brother after her mother died giving birth to him when she was 9 and she loves taking care of boys. Her brother ran away when he was 14 and she was 23. She was devastated when he left and has been isolated from society for over 7 years. She has been indifferent to God ever since her brother ran away, but has started opening up more.

Why has she kept herself isolated from society?

She always felt that society would reject her because her brother ran away. And without her younger brother to take care of, she felt like she had no purpose in life anymore.

Was she ever in love?

No, she has not ever been in love before.

What is her temperament? Does she get angry easily, or does she have a quieter personality?

She is moody and expressive. She gets angered fairly easily, but she can control it most of the time. She definitely does not have a quiet personality.

Out of interest, since you said she was a spinster, is she past the age of ever getting married/having children then? 29/30 seems pretty young. (At least that’s what I always thought the definition of Spinster was)

Back then, women were spinsters if they weren’t married in their early twenties. I don’t know the exact age, but that’s the way it was.

Does she still have any desire to be married?

Yes, she does.

Who is her closest friend?

Her brother, Caleb.

Does she feel constrained by her isolation, since she does not have a naturally quiet personality?

Perhaps somewhat, but she was never close to any of the females in town.

Did she have a good relationship with her younger brother before he ran away?

Yes, she did. She raised him after her mother died giving birth to him and always felt like she was his mother. When he ran away, it nearly broke her heart. Jed had been her life, the main reason she had lived the previous 14 years.

Does she feel guilty, as if she might have kept him there if she had been different?

Yes, she does. She second guesses herself nearly everyday. Was there something she could have done? Could she have stopped her father from beating Jed? Those are questions that haunt her.

Does she have much work to do day to day?

She has the garden to tend to, the cooking, cleaning, and laundry. There is plenty for her to do and when she runs out of things around the house, she can go help her father and brother in the fields.

Do her father and brother depend on her for things?

They depend on her to have the house clean and food on the table. If they get hurt or sick, she is the one who doctors them back to health.  Other than that, they do most everything on their own.

In which a 4 book series becomes…

As I have been writing Be Thou My Vision, reading reviews, and hearing from my readers, I have come to a decision.  My four book series is going to have at least five books, possibly six, possibly more as I continue writing.  This new book will be book #3 in the Hymns of the West series and will be titled Amazing Grace.

The new order:

  1. A Mighty Fortress-Introduces the Brookings and Stuart families
  2. Be Thou My Vision-Follows part of the life of Jed Stuart’s sister, Anna
  3. Amazing Grace-Caleb and Iain Stuart’s journey
  4. The Solid Rock-Joshua Brookings must solve a mystery involving Elizabeth’s father
  5. Come Thou Fount-Ruth falls in love Continue reading
